Jerry Earl Nelson was born on January 15, 1944, Los Angeles County, California and died on June 10, 2017.

He was an American astronomer.

He was known for his pioneering work designing segmented mirror telescopes, which led to him receiving the 2010 Kavli Prize for Astrophysics.

Nelson the principal designer and project scientist for the Keck telescopes.

He died in Santa Cruz, California.

Jerry Nelson passed away at 73 years old.
