James Anthony Piersall was born on November 14, 1929, and died on June 3, 2017.

He was an American baseball center fielder.

Piersall played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for five teams, from 1950 through 1967.

He was best known for his well-publicized battle with bipolar disorder that became the subject of the book and movie Fear Strikes Out.

He was married three times.

Piersall had nine children with his first wife Mary.

The couple divorced in 1968.

Piersall lived in Chicago until his death on June 3, 2017, with his third wife Jan, whom he married in 1982.

Jimmy Piersall passed away at 87 years old.
