Louis R. Desmarais was born on February 16, 1923, in Sudbury, Ontario and died on March 25, 2017, in Montreal.

He was a Liberal party member of the Canadian House of Commons. He was a Chartered Accountant by career.

Louis Desmarais represented the riding of Dollard since his victory there in the 1979 federal election and his re-election in 1980.

He was defeated in the 1984 federal election by Gerry Weiner of the Progressive Conservative party.
