Ronald William Prest Drever was born on October 1931 and died on March 7, 2017.
He was a Scottish experimental physicist.
Drever served as the Professor Emeritus at the California Institute of Technology, co-founded the LIGO project, and was a co-inventor of the Pound–Drever–Hall technique for laser stabilisation.
His work was instrumental in the first detection of gravitational waves in September 2015.
He received his education at the University of Glasgow where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1953
