Adolf Born was born on June 12, 1930, and died on May 22, 2016.
He was a Czech painter and illustrator, caricaturist and film-maker.
For his continuous contribution as a children’s illustrator, Adolf Born was a finalist for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2008.
He came from a town in České Velenice on the Bohemian side of the southern border with Austria.
He gained his Visual Arts Education from 1949 to 1955 in Prague, where he lived and worked.
From the 1960s, his works have been exhibited all over the world. In 1974, Born was declared cartoonist of the year in Montreal and he won the Palma d’Oro in Bordighera, Italy.
Born specialised in bookplate (the “ex libris”), usually using colour lithography.
Adolf has held over 100 exhibitions, illustrated hundreds of books and designed theatre sets and costumes.
Born was married and had one daughter.
The asteroid 17806 was named after him as a reward.
Adolf Born passed away at 85 yrs old.
