Dead. David Michie, born in 1928 and died on August 28, 2015, he was a painter who was born in the South of France, to painter Anne Redpath.

He was brought up in the Scottish Borders. After national service (1947 to 1949) when he qualified as an instructor in the Royal Artillery Signals Training regiment he studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1949 to 1953, where he was taught by William Gillies, and then won a travelling scholarship to Italy.

Later he taught at the College, from 1982 to 1990 as Head of the Drawing and Painting Department, and was subsequently an Honorary Vice-President.

In 1979 he was Visiting Artist at the University of the Arts in Belgrade.

In 1991 he went to the University of California at Santa Barbara as Visiting Professor. He was awarded an OBE in the New Year of 1997.

Some of his paintings reflect his travels in the USA and Australia.

Favourite subjects include birds, Nature, and people in the street. He works in oils or watercolour.
