Dwight King, born on September 24, 1942, in Hutchinson, Kansas and died September 11, 2015 of complications from Parkinson’s disease.

He was a retired Northern Illinois University professor of political science.

Dr. Dwight held degrees from Hesston College, Goshen College, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Chicago where he received the Ph.D. in Political Science in 1978 after three years of field research in Indonesia funded by the Social Science Research Council, National Science Foundation, and the Ford Foundation.

He held professorships at Connecticut College and at Northern Illinois University.

Dwight taught at NIU for 32 years, distinguishing himself as a teacher, mentor, and researcher.

He served as Director of Graduate Studies in Political Science and Director of the renowned Center for Southeast Asian Studies.

Dwight was internationally known in academic and governmental arenas as a scholar and expert on Indonesia.

He died at age 72 on September 11, 2015 at the DeKalb Area Retirement Center-Oak Crest from complications associated with Lewy Body disease.
