Erwin Louis Hahn was born on June 9, 1921, and died on September 20, 2016.

He was an American physicist.

He was best known for his work on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

During 1950 Hahn discovered the spin echo.

Erwin received his B.S. in Physics from Juniata College and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.

Hahn has been Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley since 1991 and was professor of physics, 1955-91.

He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1971.

During 1999 Hahn was awarded the Comstock Prize in Physics from the National Academy of Sciences.

Erwin Hahn passed away at 95 years old.
