Eugenio Carmi was born on February 17, 1920, in Genoa and died on February 16, 2016.

He was an Italian painter and sculptor.

He was one of the top exponents of abstractionism in Italy.

During his teen years, he moved to Switzerland because of the racial laws, and he graduated in Chemistry at the ETH Zurich.

Following his return to Italy, Carmi studied painting under Felice Casorati and sculpture under Guido Galletti.

He had abandoned the informal style and adopted a geometric rigor in his works during the 50’s.

Eugenio Carmi works often used factory materials such as welded steel and iron.

However, he worked with the steel company Italsider (later Ilva) as their responsible for the image, from 1958 to 1965

In 1963, himself, Flavio Costantini and Emanuele Luzzati founded the cooperative of artists Galleria del Deposito.

Umberto Eco other friends, he collaborated with on several projects.

Eugenio Carmi taught in several academies.

Eugenio Carmi passed away at 95 yrs old.
