Haliru Dantoro also known as Senator Haliru Dantoro Kitoro born in 1938 and died October 30, 2015.

Haliru Dantoro was the third highest ranking traditional ruler in Niger state, was a politician in the Second Republic and the short-lived Third Republic, winning election into the Senate on the platform of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1992.

Dantoro became the Kitoro 111 of the Borgu Kingdom on February 3, 2000, after the demise of Alhaji Musa Mohammadu.

Haliru was the Emir who endowned the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the title “Jagaban,” meaning “Leader of Warriors.”

Haliru attended Old Bussa Elementary School from 1945 to 1949; Dantoro proceeded to Pakata Elementary School, Ilorin (1950) and Baboko Senior Primary School, Ilorin (1950-1953).

When he attended primary school in Ilorin, little Dantoro lived in the Zango area of Ilorin and covered the 9-mile distance each school day for four years. From 1953 to 1955 he was at the Ilorin Middle School (now Government Secondary School), Ilorin, Kwara State.

He choose to study administration at the Institute of Administration at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

Haliru studied three programmes from 1957-1958, 1959-1961 and 1969-1970. In the course of his later life he attended a quite number of professional and policy related courses within and outside the country.

He then later served for ninety days as minister, at the FCT in 1983 under President Shehu Shagari, which led the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) Federal Government.

He also went to prison after the December 31, 1983, military coup that ended the second Republic.

Haliru regained his freedom and was elected Distinguished Senator from Zone C comprising Borgu and Kontagora in 1992 on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC),after the coup on the August 27, 1985.
