Hansjörg Auer, Austrian mountaineer, Died at 35

Hansjorg Auer was born on February 18, 1984, and died on April 17, 2019, in a climbing accident. He was an Austrian mountaineer, noted for his free solo climbs.

Hansjorg is possibly best known for his 2007 free solo climbing of the fish route (south face) of Marmolada in the Dolomites, northeastern Italy. He was born in Zams, Tyrol.


As of 19 April 2019, Hansjorg, followed by American Jess Roskelley and fellow Austrian David Lama, remain missing since their ascent of Howse Peak in Banff National Park of the Canadian Rockies on 16 or 17 April.

Canadian officials believe the three men to have died in an avalanche.
Hansjorg Auer passed away at the age of 35.
