Heinz Billing was born on April 7, 1914, and died on January 4, 2017.

He was a German physicist and computer scientist.

Billing was widely considered a pioneer in the construction of computer systems and computer data storage, who built a prototype laser interferometric gravitational wave detector.

He was born in Salzwedel, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

When he completed studying mathematics and physics in the University of Göttingen he received his doctorate in 1938 in Munich at the age of 24.

Billings married Anneliese Oetker, on October 3, 1943.

He had three children.

Heinz Billing passed away at 102 years old.
