James Paul David Bunning was born on October 23, 1931, and died on May 26, 2017.

He was an American professional baseball pitcher and politician.

Bunning represented constituents from Kentucky in both chambers of the United States Congress.

Jim is the sole Major League Baseball athlete elected to the United States Senate and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

He pitched from 1955 to 1971 for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

After Bunning retired, he had the second-highest total of career strikeouts in Major League history; he currently ranks 17th.

Jim Bunning passed away at 85 years old.
