Joan Guinjoan, Spanish composer and pianist, Died at 87

Joan Guinjoan i Gispert was born on November 28, 1931, and died on 1 January 2019.

He was a Catalan composer and pianist.

Guinjoan was born in Riudoms.

Guinjoan studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona.

Guinjoan moved to Paris in 1954 and continued his studies at the École normale de musique.

Guinjoan also received teachings from Cristòfor Taltabull.

After more than 250 piano recitals, Guinjoan abandoned his career as a pianist in the 1960s. He then devoted himself to composition.

In 1962, Guinjoan joined the Schola Cantorum de Paris.

Guinjoan returned to Barcelona the following year.

In 1999 he received the Creu de Sant Jordi, a distinction awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

During 2001, Guinjoan received the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports.

He died at 87 years old.
