John Bjørnebye was born on January 12, 1941, in Tromsø and died on May 3, 2017.

Bjørnebye served as the Norwegian consul-general in New York City from 1989 to 1994, and then as the Norwegian ambassador to Japan from 1994 to 1999.

He spent the following two years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bjørnebye was the Norwegian ambassador to Belgium from 2001 to 2006.

John Bjørnebye passed away at 76 years old.
