Katja Ingergard Geiger birthname Karin Ingegerd Hallberg was born on January 12, 1920, and died on January 25, 2017.

She was better known as Katja of Sweden.

She was a Swedish fashion designer.

Following his studies in art and design at Konstfack and Beckmans in Stockholm, Sweden, Karin moved to New York City in 1946 to study fashion design at Parson’s School of Design.

While she was there, Karin married movie producer and director Rod E. Geiger who at the time was producing movies for Roberto Rosselini.

She became close friends with Rosselini’s wife Ingrid Bergman, and named a blouse after her that became a fashion hit.

Together they moved to Huaröd in Sweden, where Katja of Sweden became a fashion sensation that lasted over 20 years.

During 1975, the Geigers moved back to New York City, where Katja began designing home textiles, bed sheets, and kitchenware.

Then “Katja shops” opened up in Macy’s department store and Cannon Mills manufactured her designs under license.

During 1995, the Geigers relocated back to Sweden to be closer to family.

During 2000, Rod Geiger died.

Her clothes are now part of the permanent collection of the Museum “Kulturen” in Lund, Sweden.

Katja of Sweden, Karin Ingegerd Hallberg passed away at 97 years old.
