Lawrence Lamond Phillips was born May 12, 1975, and died at January 13, 2016, at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California

He was a former professional American football and Canadian football running back.

Phillps was a two-time college football national champion at the University of Nebraska, Phillips’ career was overshadowed by his inability to stay out of trouble off the field.

Lawrence Phillips was arrested several times during the course of his life.

Lawrence was serving a seven-year term for felony assault with a deadly weapon and was set to serve a additional twenty-five years once that sentence elapsed for domestic assault on his girlfriend.

Phillips was charged with the murder of his former cellmate, Damion Soward, in 2015.

Lawrence freshman year at Nebraska, Phillips gradually worked his way up the player ranks, in 1993.

During his sophomore year, Phillips became the focal point of the offense because of injuries to quarterbacks Tommie Frazier and Brook Berringer.

He then moved on to the Miami Dolphins for two games, running for only 44 yards on 18 carries for a 2.4 yard-per-carry average.
