Markus Werner was born on December 24, 1944,in Eschlikon and died on July 3, 2016.

He was a German-speaking Swiss writer.

Werner was known as the author of the novels Zündels Abgang (Zündel’s Departure) and Am Hang (On the Edge).

During 1948 the family relocated to Thayngen (canton of Schaffhausen) where Werner finished school and passed the general qualification for university entrance in 1965.

He attended the University of Zürich, where he studied philosophy and psychology.

Werner completed a doctorate on Max Frisch, in 1974, whose writing has been an important influence on Werner.

Werner worked as a teacher, from 1975 to 1985 and from 1985 to 1990 as an assistant professor at the Kantonsschule (high school) in Schaffhausen. He has dedicated himself exclusively to writing since 1990.

Werner resided in Schaffhausen.

Markus Werner passed away at 71 years old.
