Ranginui Joseph Isaac Walker was born on March 1, 1932, and died on February 29, 2016.
He was of Māori and Lebanese descent.
He was an academic and writer living in New Zealand.
Walker was educated at St Peter’s Maori College, Auckland, Auckland Teachers’ Training College and the University of Auckland.
He was a member of the Whakatōhea tribe of Opotiki in the Bay of Plenty.
Walker was a member of Māori activist group Ngā Tamatoa.
Later, Ranginui Walker went on to become the Professor and Head of Māori Studies at the University of Auckland.
Ranginui Walker became a member of the Waitangi Tribunal, in 2003.
Walker received a Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement, in 2009.
Ranginui Walker passed away at 83 yrs old.
