Robert Redbird, Sr. was born in 1939 and died on March 5, 2016,

He was an iconic native artist who painted in order to preserve and communicate the Kiowa culture.

Robert was known primarily for his blanket-wrapped Southern Plains figures and depiction of Kiowa folklore.

He worked in several medium but was most well known for having accomplished his works with an airbrush.

On June 7, 2003, declared as “Robert Redbird Day” by the Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry, to celebrate the artist’s many creative and humanitarian achievements.

Redbird has worked in many different capacities in his life and given several awards.

The artist has worked as a welder, mechanic, auto body repairman & painter, a Pentecostal minister, a gospel singer, commercial artist, lecturer, and painter.

Robert Redbird also served as a cultural consultant on several motion pictures, including the 1990 film, Dances With Wolves.

Robert Redbird passed away at 76 yrs old.
