Vivian Eng, born on November 5, 1913 in Darjeeling, India and died September 3, 2015 in a house fire.
The federally-subsidized building, Manhattan Plaza, was home to mostly those in the performing arts industry.
Eng was known for her roles in “Precious” (2009), “Away We Go” (2009) and “Barney Live! In New York City” (1994).
Her neighbor, fellow actor Dylan Baker, who had a recurring role on CBS’s THE GOOD WIFE and was recently seen on Broadway in THE AUDIENCE, attempted to help Eng, who was disabled.
While firefighters were able to rescue the actress and she was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
She passed away Thursday morning, September 3, 2015 as a result of her burns.
Eng was originally a dancer, but had to cease that career path after developing rheumatoid arthritis.
She was featured in the ensemble of Broadway’s 1996 revival of THE KING AND I. She also took the stage in CHESS at Paper Mill Playhouse.
