Wayne Carson was An American country musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is sometimes credited a Wayne Carson Thompson.

His songs were performed by entertainers including Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, The Beach Boys, Joe Cocker, Al Green, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Bobby Darin, The Pet Shop Boys, Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, Gin Blossoms, Randy Trqvis, Eddy Arnold, Michael Buble, Julio Iglesias, Tina Turner, Alabama, Clarence Carter, and others.

His most well-known songs include Neon Rainbow, The Letter, Always on My Mind, and Soul Deep.
Carson was born in Denver, but moved to Nashville in 1962. He also lived in Springfield Missouri at different times. He won a Grammy in 1983 for Always on My Mind, and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1997.
