Xiao Yang, Chinese judge, Died at 80

Xiao Yang was born on August 4, 1938, and died on April 19, 2019; he was a Chinese judge and politician who served as Minister of Justice and President of the Supreme People’s Court of China.

Born in Heyuan, Guangdong in 1938, Xiao Yang obtained his LL.B degree from Renmin University of China Law School in 1962.


Xiao was the Minister of Justice from 1993 to 1998. He was elected as the President of the Supreme People’s Court in 1998 to replace Ren Jianxin and was, re-elected in 2003 for another term.

He was a member of the 15th and 16th CPC Central Committee.

Xiao Yang passed away at the age of 80, in Beijing on April 19, 2019.
